Matt's Letter February 23, 2013

Hey!  How are ya'll?  Yay for baby Noah coming into the world!  Yesterday we learned about how important it is as missionaries to work with members.  They (our neighbors) would make great members of the church!  Yes the mail has been taking for ever to get here.  Today we invited our investigator Eder to be baptized, but he said not yet.
So yesterday they announced to us that 58 new missions have been/will be created!  Isn't that awesome?!  They are creating a Salt Lake City East mission so I'm not sure if that will affect our mission boundaries any more.  It snowed so hard today - was so beautiful.  Elder Roper said Hi and so did Elder Hall - Pilcher.  They are the other set of Elders going to Salt Lake and are our roommates.  Oh yes I did find your letter in my bag back when I was at the Denver airport, but I forgot to tell you.  Yesterday we talked about to do lists and to be lists, to be lists are better and it helps us to what I want to become.  Anyways...that is awesome to hear Kimball is going to Albania!  I have to go do personal study.  Love your and miss you!  Love Elder Alpin

Matt's Letter February 21, 2013

Dear Mother & Father,

Sunday was wonderful.  They give a topic for each Sunday for example, this Sunday is Repentance.  They tell all the missionaries in the branch to prepare a 3-5 minute talk about the subject.  Then on Sunday you find out if they call on you to talk.  There isn't Sunday School.  Sacrament isn't until 2-ish which is kind of weird.  Everyone in my district got here the same day and will only be here for 2 weeks so no we don't have a trainer.  We have awesome teachers though.  We are in a classroom most of the time.  I don't mind it.  So no I don't feel locked up.  There is a window.  My companion gets distracted by it a lot.  Alison has emailed me but no one else has written me.  I love the Provo Temple.  The food is good.  I'm trying not to eat too much.  At church there was like 5 districts that made up our branch.  We meet in a room, it's not a chapel.  Well I guess it is a chapel, but not a church building.  I saw Kimball today!  There is a place where we can take our clothes to be dry cleaned.  He works at the dry cleaners so hew was getting clothes to be cleaned.  today we learned how to invite people to be Baptized.  So we were supposed to leave Wednesday, Feb 27, but today they changed it so now I'm leaving the MTC Tuesday the 26th.  I can't believe my time here is almost done!  It's crazy.  Today we taught 2 of our investigators.  Just when I thought we were getting better, we had lessons like today.  It was horrible.  After teaching our 2nd person I was so upset and frustrated.  I could feel my eyes starting to tear up so I went into the bathroom stall and I cried.  It was the first time I've cried really hard since I've been here.  I'm surprised I held up this long.  It was nice.  Everyone needs a good cry.  After that my day was so much better.  Tonight we gave all the sisters in our district a blessing because a lot of them have been struggling.  I gave one of the blessings to Sister Martin.  It was so powerful.  I've never felt my priesthood be so important before.  right now all my roommates are singing a whole bunch of random songs.  It's comical.  I miss ya'll so much!  Remember to read and pray and read Preach My Gospel!  Tonight I was reading about the atonement.  I', so grateful for Christ and his love, I can't even comprehend it and wonder why we are so blessed.  Sing I Stand all Amazed (193).  That explains how I feel so much!  Love, Elder Alpin

Letter Home Tuesday February, 19, 2013

Right now I am standing in line for DEVO(tional).  We had to get here super early or we would have to go into the overflow.  I've had a pretty good day thus far.  Today we taught a guy named Tunichi.  He was just acting, but it was still realistic.  Yesterday we were late for our first class.  Ok I feel like maybe I've already told you how I was late to like everything yesterday.  Anyways I need not complain.  Craig C. Christensen is the speaker at the devotional right meow.  I got your card mother & also dad's letter today.  AND! My package of  rice Krispy treats.  I had to wait like 3 days to pick up my package so I hope they are still good.  Hey so please don't send more food while I'm at the MTC.  I feel like I don't have time to eat it.  The only time I'm usually in my room is the morning and 9:30 pm.  We can't have food in the our classes which is where I spend most my time.  Gym time is good.  I usually walk on the track and do push ups and sit ups.  Yesterday we learned about how to begin teaching and how by going so can help our investigators feel the spirit in the first few minutes.  I'm sitting here now waiting for Devo to start.  Yesterday when we did our service which was cleaning our residence halls we wore normal clothes.  It felt so weird to wear not a suit!  The Rice Krispy treats taste wonderful.  Thank you so Much!  I Love ya'll so much!  Love Elder Alpin

Matt's letter, February 17,2013

Hi Mom & Dad!
I feel like I have been here forever!  I feel like I've felt so many emotions here.  There has been lots of ups and downs.  It's hard to explain in a letter.  We taught our first investigator twice now, it went horrible both times.  Right now I am senior companion.  On Wednesday my companion will be senior companion.  I love our district.  Our district leader, Elder O'Neal, reminds me of the tubby blonde kid from recess.  It's funny and he is pretty cool.  I am lying in bed right now, it's almost 11pm. I saw Jacen again and I saw Marshall!  Today we had a Sunday walk, it was so weird going outside the MTC.  We walked to the temple and back.  I can't wait for P-day to go to the temple.  Acts 10, read it.  Cornelius' faith is so amazing!  Sacrament meeting was so wonderful, our second counselor is Brother Hardy.  Sister Hardy, his wife, is amazing.  Anything she says the spirit is there.  Mom I hope your class is going well .  Remember Heavenly Father loves you both!  My companion and I get along alright.  Who knew serving a mission would be so hard?  I hope everything is going well.  I leave the MTC February 27.  We are taking a train to South Jordan.  Love you!  Elder Alpin
